Connect Gemini to Relay

Give Gemini a memory it shares with your other AIs. Plans, progress and reviews saved in Gemini can be picked up by any of the 25 AI tools Relay works with, and the other way round. It takes about two minutes.

What you need
Gemini CLI (Gemini app: Spark only)
How it connects
One command or config entry (MCP)

1. Get your connection link

  1. Sign in to Relay with Google. It's free during the beta.
  2. Open Integrations, click Set up on Gemini, then Generate connection URL. Copy it straight away: it's shown only once.
  3. Below, YOUR-KEY stands for your link. The dashboard shows the same steps with your link already filled in.

2. Add Relay to Gemini

  1. Install the Gemini CLI if you haven't, then register the memory server for all projects:
    gemini mcp add --transport http --scope user relay https://mcp.relaymemory.app/mcp/YOUR-KEY
  2. Start gemini and run /mcp. relay should be listed with its tools.
  3. Gemini app (web/mobile): custom MCP apps currently only work inside Gemini Spark tasks for eligible accounts. If you have it, add a Connected App with:
    https://mcp.relaymemory.app/mcp/YOUR-KEY
  4. Gemini Code Assist (VS Code) uses the same ~/.gemini/settings.json. In Android Studio, open Settings → Tools → AI → MCP Servers and add the same entry (note the field is httpUrl):
    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "relay": {
          "httpUrl": "https://mcp.relaymemory.app/mcp/YOUR-KEY"
        }
      }
    }

3. Test it

Send this in Gemini. It should answer from your Relay memory:

Load the latest conversation from my projects in Relay.

Make it save on its own

  1. In a Gemini session, send this once:
    In every conversation, store our work in Relay: save new plans, add progress updates as we go, and keep it up to date.
  2. Gemini asks permission to use Relay. Choose Allow always, so it saves as you work. Deleting always asks you first.
  3. To keep it on in new sessions, add the same sentence to your project's GEMINI.md.

Using Relay in Gemini every day

  • The Gemini CLI loads Relay in every session. There's nothing to switch on.
  • To stop the approval prompts for Relay only, choose Always allow when asked, or add "trust": true to the relay entry in ~/.gemini/settings.json.
  • Make it automatic: add this line to your project's GEMINI.md, and it checks Relay on its own.
    At the start of a task, check Relay for the latest plan for this project. When you finish, add a progress update to Relay.

Things to say in Gemini:

Save this plan to Relay for the project "My project".
Pick up my latest plan from Relay and continue it.
Add a progress update to Relay for this work.
Review the latest work in Relay and add your review.
Remember in Relay that I prefer short answers.
What's waiting for me in Relay?
Gemini uses Relay's cloud endpoint, so it works even when Relay isn't running on your PC. Support in the Gemini app is limited and still rolling out.
