Connect Claude Code to Relay

Give Claude Code a memory it shares with your other AIs. Plans, progress and reviews saved in Claude Code can be picked up by any of the 25 AI tools Relay works with, and the other way round. It takes about two minutes.

What you need
Any Claude plan
How it connects
One command or config entry (MCP)

1. Get your connection link

  1. Sign in to Relay with Google. It's free during the beta.
  2. Open Integrations, click Set up on Claude Code, then Generate connection URL. Copy it straight away: it's shown only once.
  3. Below, YOUR-KEY stands for your link. The dashboard shows the same steps with your link already filled in.

2. Add Relay to Claude Code

  1. Register the memory server once, for all your projects:
    claude mcp add --transport http --scope user relay https://mcp.relaymemory.app/mcp/YOUR-KEY
  2. If you set it up before under the old name or a different URL, remove that entry first:
    claude mcp remove centralised-memory --scope user
  3. Restart Claude Code and run /mcp. relay should show as connected.

3. Test it

Send this in Claude Code. It should answer from your Relay memory:

List my projects and remembered facts from Relay.

Make it save on its own

  1. In a Claude Code session, send this once:
    In every conversation, store our work in Relay: save new plans, add progress updates as we go, and keep it up to date.
  2. Claude Code asks permission to use Relay. Choose Yes, and don't ask again, so it saves as you work. Deleting always asks you first.
  3. To keep it on in new sessions, add the same sentence to your project's CLAUDE.md.

Using Relay in Claude Code every day

  • Relay is on in every project and session. There's nothing to switch on. Check it any time with /mcp.
  • Claude Code asks before each Relay tool the first time. Pick Yes, and don't ask again, or allow all Relay tools at once in ~/.claude/settings.json. Deleting still needs your OK and the key's delete permission.
    {
      "permissions": {
        "allow": [
          "mcp__relay"
        ]
      }
    }
  • Shortcuts: type /mcp__relay__pickup, /mcp__relay__board, /mcp__relay__handoff or /mcp__relay__review. If you registered it under another name, use that name instead of relay.
  • Make it automatic: add this line to your project's CLAUDE.md, and it checks Relay on its own.
    At the start of a task, check Relay for the latest plan for this project. When you finish, add a progress update to Relay.

Things to say in Claude Code:

Save this plan to Relay for the project "My project".
Pick up my latest plan from Relay and continue it.
Add a progress update to Relay for this work.
Review the latest work in Relay and add your review.
Remember in Relay that I prefer short answers.
What's waiting for me in Relay?
Claude Code uses Relay's cloud endpoint, so it works even when Relay isn't running on your PC. It can run commands, so it benefits most from the untrusted-data markers.
